Our Story

In our highly 'disposable' society, we want to be different. Wallace Farm turns what others throw away into products that help things grow.

From Homestead to Industry Leader

The Wallace family began farming this land in the Huntersville area in 1863. For generations, the family worked the soil, raising crops and livestock. A dairy operation was established in 1945, and composting was added in 1960. By 1990, our composting operation had grown to its current capacity, making us one of the first two facilities in North Carolina to receive composting permits. Wallace Farm, Inc. was formally established in 1995 and incorporated in 2002. In 2014, we purchased land in Davie County for our second location, which began production in 2015. Today, our two facilities serve communities across the state with premium soil, compost, and mulch products.

Five Generations and Counting

Eric Wallace, fifth-generation farmer and president of Wallace Farm, carries on the tradition his family started over 160 years ago. Alongside co-owner Michelle Wallace, he oversees operations at both the Huntersville and Advance facilities. Their son Trevor, who studied agricultural business at NC State University, represents the sixth generation preparing to continue the family legacy.

Closing the Loop on Organic Waste

We receive green waste, yard debris, and pre-consumer food waste from manufacturers and municipalities - including a partnership with the City of Winston-Salem for yard waste collection. Through our composting and processing operations, we transform these materials into premium soil amendments, composts, and mulch products. It is a simple idea that keeps organic waste out of landfills and puts it back to work in gardens, landscapes, and farms across North Carolina.

Quality You Can Trust

All of our compost products are registered with the North Carolina Department of Agriculture as fertilizers and soil amendments. We participate in the U.S. Composting Council's Seal of Testing Assurance (STA) Program, which means our products are regularly tested to meet established quality standards. Several of our products carry OMRI Listed certification for organic use.
